About Us

Who we are

Hello everyone! We are Project Heads Up, an Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) Singapore initiative with students from the Lee Kong Chian and Yong Loo Lin Schools of Medicine supported by KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Our team recognises a steady overall increase in screen time exposure into the excess amongst the youngest generation - from the perinatal phase to children 6 years of age. Our drive for the project stems from the recognition that these negative health effects are undoubtedly preventable, promising us a fighting chance against the silent influence of screen use.

The team at Project Heads Up has been working over the past year to support and expand existing measures targeted towards reducing screen use among young children through a variety of activities involving public outreach, education, and advocacy on a national, regional, and global level.

In terms of advocacy, we hope to improve national public health policy and existing measures to better position the Project to collaborate with other agencies to achieve the Project’s goals. We aspire to form partnerships with governmental and non-governmental organisations to raise awareness and influence positive action on a global level about excessive screen use in young children.

We are raising awareness in Singapore by doing public outreach to parents, educators and the general public. We hope to educate parents and educators about excessive screen use in young children and expand our outreach through social media. On top of raising awareness in Singapore, we are making a regional and global impact by engaging in discussions with other countries such as Hong Kong, the Philippines and Thailand to implement initiatives and address the problem of excessive screen use among children in their local contexts.

Mission

Project Heads Up calls upon the support of both healthcare and non-healthcare organisations and institutions, rallying together to effectively manage the screen usage in children. Advocacy campaigns, public outreach and educational materials extend our reach to as many children, parents, and educators as possible, materialising our objectives to bring about real change to the growing public health problem of excessive screen use among young children.

Vision

A technologically-integrated world, where appropriate use of screen devices co-exists with traditional games and entertainment to stimulate a young child’s development.
